Yes this farming season is slow in getting underway. Just to put things in perspective, in 2007 we already had temperatures in the 80s. Last season we already put plants outside the greenhouse by now and were prepping the fields for planting. And we put plants in the ground in March! Sure last season was exceptionally warm and snow free but this season seems to be exceptional as well!  We have finalized pricing and assortment for CheeseShare. Since we are down to one cheese vendor our options are more limited than last year. We’ve reduced the amount of butter and cream cheese as requested by many of our members. This is a great product to add to your veggies, fruit and meats! The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has recently become concerned about unfair labor practices on small family farms. I was one of the lucky ones who was paid a visit. I’ve transcribed the conversation below: MDA agent: I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them. Me: Well, there’s my farm hand, who’s been with me for 3 years. I pay him $200 a week plus free room and board. Then there’s the mentally challenged worker. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per

So we will be revamping CheeseShare with our There is an article in today’s Pioneer Press regarding the Minnesota Statewide Health Initiative Program and Washington County’s use of funds to promore more healthful eating. In particular the article discusses joining a CSA farm and mentions Fresh Earth Farms as one of the few farms located in Washington County. There will be another meeting on March 15th in Woodbury where we will be on the panel discussing CSA farming. The recruiting season is in full force.
